The Planning and Programming Department is responsible for long-range transportation planning for the County roadway network and enhanced coordination of the  transit and bicycle / pedestrian ​systems. Staff works closely with the Kane County Deveopment Department to integrate transportation and land use planning. The Department also monitors projects identified through the planning process for construction to ensure adequate funds are secured and the requirements of the Federal and State processes are met in a timely fashion. The Department coordinates frequently with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) and other regional transportation agencies. The Department also provides staff for the Kane Kendall Council of Mayors.

The Kane County Division of Transportation also prepares a budget and Draft 5-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) annually. Information about the TIP can be found under Finance and Budget.
