​​Maintenance

The Maintenance Department is responsible for keeping Kane County’s 730 lane miles of roadway clear of debris (including snow & ice) and overall maintenance of the road signs and pavement of the roadways. The department’s mission is to proactively maintain the roadways to improve the safety of the driving public.

Adopt-a-Highway Program (more info)
The Kane County Adopt-A-Highway program allows citizens to support anti-litter efforts by allowing groups to adopt a section of County Highway for the purpose of litter collection.

Winter Operations (more info)
Beginning at the end of October and continuing through the end of March, activities include: snow & ice control, anti-Icing, snow plowing, tree removal & trimming, brush removal & trimming, and highway surface maintenance. Kane County invites the public to participate in Kane County’s Snow Plow Ride-Along Program. Find the application form here.

Spring Operations
Beginning March and continuing through the end of May, activities include: mowing, highway swale maintenance, highway sweeping, storm sewer maintenance, and highway surface maintenance. Many public concerns in the spring operational season are related to drainage issues associated with the runoff from Spring rains. Summer Operations
Beginning in June and continuing through the end of September, activities include: mowing, highway swale maintenance, highway sweeping, storm sewer maintenance, and highway surface maintenance. Many public concerns in the summer operation season are related to vegetation growing along the highways.  Please contact Scott VerVynck at 630-406-7368 for vegetation issues.

Fall Operations
Beginning in October and typically continuing thru the middle of December, activities include: snow fence installation, highway shoulder maintenance, and culvert inspection. The County does not collect leaves, however, the County may provide assistance removing leaves or other debris clogging a driveway culvert or roadside ditches.  Please contact Scott VerVynck at 630-406-7368 for driveway culvert issues.

Year Round Highway Patrols
The Maintenance Department has three patrol trucks that drive the County Highways on a daily basis. The primary responsibilities of those staffing the vehicles include: garbage removal, dead animal removal, accident clean-up, and Intersection sweeping and cleaning.
