​​​What is Ride in Kane and Who Can Use It?

Ride in Kane provides 24/7 curb-to-curb transportation services for eligible Kane County residents:

  • Seniors (65+) & Individuals with Disabilities: May travel anywhere within Kane County and within municipalities that are partially in Kane County.
  • ​​Veterans: May travel to the Hoffman Estates and Aurora VA Clinics, the Aurora Vet Center and the Kane County Veterans Treatment Court.  ​

All trips outside Kane County must start or end within Kane County and may travel to any municipality that is partly within Kane County.

Fares:

  • $5.00 for the first 10 miles; $2.00 for each additional mile.
  • Payment accepted by Ventra (at reservation) or exact cash onboard.
  • To pay with Ventra, first establish a Pace TripCheck account and register your Ventra account number onto your Paratransit file. More details can be found at: https://www.pacebus.com/dar   

Service Details:

  • All vehicles are wheelchair accessible.
  • This is a shared-ride service. The bus may pick up and drop off other passengers during your ride.
  • This is curb-to-curb service. Drivers cannot escort riders outside the vehicle or carry packages.
  • One Personal Care Attendant (PCA) allowed per rider (PCA rides free).
  • Riders under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Service is available 365 days a year.

3 Easy Steps

Step 1 - Determine Your Eligibility Category

Seniors (65+) & Individuals with Disabilities must obtain one of the following:

    • RTA Reduced Fare - Easiest permit to obtain; Ride in Kane fare applies; reduced fares on CTA, Pace, and Metra.
    • Ride Free Permit - Ride in Kane fare applies; must meet RTA income limits; free rides on CTA, Pace, and Metra.
              
    • ADA Paratransit Permit - Requires an in-person interview and functional assessment conducted by the RTA.

Veterans do not need an RTA Permit. Provide your Veterans Healthcare ID number when registering.

Step 2 - Register with Pace Suburban Bus

Call Pace call center with your eligibility information. Provide your RTA Permit number or Veterans Healthcare ID number.

ADA Paratransit serves the wider region.

ADA Paratransit is a shared ride, origin-to-destination transportation option within the six-county RTA region, for eligible riders whose health or disability condition(s) prevent them from using fixed route buses or ‘L’ trains for some or all of their trips. Riders must qualify through the RTA ADA certification process (not age-based). ADA Paratransit services operate within three-quarters of a mile of CTA or Pace fixed bus routes or CTA 'L' train stations —covering a wider area than Ride in Kane. Cross-county trips may require transfers between ADA carriers.
