The Permitting Department is responsible for reviewing applications for access to Kane County highways and issuing permits.

NOTE: Fees submitted at the time of permit application are non-refundable, so be sure your work is within KDOT's permitting jurisdiction BEFORE SUBMITTING.  If you have any questions, call or email the KDOT Permit office BEFORE SUBMITTING.​

Starting on Monday, June 12, 2023, the Kane County Division of Transportation (KDOT) will be using a new permit software based on the Accela platform.  This will allow applicants to view their permit status online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.​

The new software will have the following features:

1.  Other than Oversize/Overweight permits (see below), all permit applications, plans, and other documents will be submitted via the on-line portal.

2.  Application fees for most permit types will be due before an application can be submitted to KDOT.  Payment is made through an integrated payment provider (Paymentus).  Payment can be made via electronic check (E-check), debit card, or credit card.

3.  Documents (plans, certificates of insurance, etc.) can be uploaded to the site by the applicant.  KDOT staff will similarly post review letters, approved plans, and issued permits to the site for permanent access by the applicant.  At application, note that plans and a certificate of insurance are required for most permit types.​
